Violet's Music

Making Violet's Music

We are please to announce that the Children's Museum of Greater Fall River has been awarded a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council. Making Violet's Music is based on the children's book by Angela Johnson, Violet's Music.

According to School Library Journal, "This is a jazzy story about an African-American girl who loves music. From the time she was a baby banging out rhythms with her rattle or a two-year-old making a horn to toot on or a kindergartner looking for other kids with the same passion, Violet played and sang, and hummed and thought about music all the time...With an upbeat text that uses lots of sound words, this tale celebrates music as much as it applauds being true to what you love. Violet seems perfectly happy to keep on making music and looking for fellow musicians."

AJohnsonWe've put together a program that will be as educational as it will be enjoyable. Music, creativity, artisitic expression, and imagination combine in workshops for children to bring Violet, her friends, and her music to life. And not only for children. Caregivers and early childhood educators can attend a 'mini-conference' on Creativity and The Child (Look out Piaget!).

This will culminate as we bring Angela Johnson, author of Violet's Music, to Fall River for an apple juice/cheese reception celebrating the works created by the children during the program. Angela will also speak on the writing process.

All this fun is supported in part by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency."
